Our Story

Thomas Lane is a self-taught knowledge seeker committed to empowering people through truth and a practical understanding of their rights.

Having attended Stephen F. Austin State University and growing up as a military child, Thomas was exposed early in life to diverse people, cultures, and systems across the United States and overseas. These experiences shaped a core belief that knowledge should be accessible, actionable, and used to protect and uplift those most in need.

Through multiple personal encounters with law enforcement over the years, Thomas experienced firsthand the uncertainty and stress that can arise when individuals are unsure of what to say, what to do, or how to properly assert their rights in high-stakes situations. He understands how quickly a lack of clarity can turn an ordinary interaction into a difficult or lasting experience.

At the same time, Thomas became increasingly aware that citizens across the country face the same challenges every day—navigating encounters without clear guidance, reliable information, or practical tools they can trust. Recognizing this widespread gap, he took it upon himself to create an avenue that helps both citizens and law enforcement better understand lawful boundaries, appropriate communication, and proper procedures, so encounters can be handled calmly, respectfully, and correctly by all parties involved.

This work is rooted not in confrontation, but in education. The goal is to reduce confusion, prevent unnecessary escalation, and promote outcomes that respect the law, individual rights, and public safety.

Above all, Thomas strives to empower people through truth—because informed individuals are better equipped to protect themselves, their communities, and the principles they value.

Mission & Purpose

The purpose of Know Your Rights: The Citizen’s Handbook is simple: to equip everyday people with the knowledge and confidence to lawfully protect themselves during encounters with law enforcement.

Too many citizens find themselves unsure of what to say, when to speak, or how to respond in moments that carry serious legal consequences. This uncertainty often leads to unnecessary escalation, misunderstandings, or outcomes that could have been avoided with the right information.

This handbook exists to close that gap.

By clearly explaining constitutional and state-level rights in plain language, this book helps individuals:

Understand their rights before, during, and after an encounter

Communicate respectfully while protecting themselves

Avoid common mistakes that can lead to unlawful detentions or arrests

Navigate real-world situations with clarity instead of fear

The goal is not confrontation, but preparedness.

Not defiance, but lawful awareness.

Not confusion, but confidence.

When citizens understand their rights and how to exercise them responsibly, encounters are safer, outcomes are fairer, and everyone benefits.

Knowledge is protection. Preparedness is power.
